Astonishingly sophisticated for autodidactic art, the paintings of Peter Mitchev blend and transcend categories with an inspired flair for melancholic whimsy. Absorbing characters peer soulfully from his canvases in exquisitely keyed decors of color scheme and composition, trailing glimpses of iconographic motive and traces of Byzantine inheritance seized in stages of metaphysical modernism.

Mitchev began painting in his native Bulgaria during the 1970's and became well-known and successful artist exhibiting in numerous nations of Europe before moving to Florida late in the year of 2000.

Among many sites of exhibition, his solo shows have been hosted by the Gallery Artkhibios, Charleroi, Belgium; Gallery Celine, Paris, France; Gallery Knud Grothe, Copenhagen, Denmark; Capilla del Mar Gallery, Cartagena, Columbia; Palace of Justice, European Union, Luxembourg; Trihotel Gallery, Rostok, Germany and many, many other locations.
